A church in Edwardsville was destroyed by flames early Sunday morning. The first calls about the fire at Saint Hedwig’s Church came in around 6:30am Sunday. Neighbors say they started smelling smoke in the area around 5:30am. The church was completely destroyed. The Diocese of Scranton had closed St. Hedwigs 16 years ago, and the building had no gas or electricity. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
